185   1 SHEEPBARN LANE.  On left side facing cross-roads in Westerham direction in bank beside road near holly trees.  Well set in ground but rusty.
184   2 FAIRCHILDES ROAD.  About 25 yards south of cross-roads on left side facing towards them, on bank beside road.  Well set in ground but rusty.
183   3 KING HENRY'S DRIVE.  On left-hand side facing cross-roads in Addington direction outside Secondary Modern School for Girls and just before housing estate.  Beside maple trees.  Well set in ground, rusty with traces of former painting.
182   4 FEATHERBED LANE.  On left-hand side of road going towards Croydon, at eastern extremity of "Fairchildes" and slightly more than ½ mile north-west of "White Bear" cross-roads.  Placed beside boundary stone, in grass bank.  Badly set in ground, tilting over with feet exposed, very rusty.
181   5 LANE NEAR SCOTSHALL FARM.  Lane is only an unfrequented footpath now.  Post is near remains of iron kissing-gate, about 3 yards from it beside elder trees.  Well set in ground but rusty.
  -   6 SCOTSHALL LANE AND FARLEIGH COURT ROAD.  At commencement of Farleigh Court Road on verge of Great Farleigh Green, on left side going towards Croydon.  In grass bank by side of road.  Well set in earth, but very rusty.   On the Victorian OS map at TQ 380 600.
This is Little Farleigh Green - Great Farleigh Green is a mile further west with Farleigh Road running across it.
  -   7 GREAT PARK WOOD.  Believed to be along the footpath which runs beside fence of Warlingham Park Hospital beside a holly tree.  May have become covered with earth and foliage.  This post was not shown on the original placement map, but is one of three boundary posts shown on the 2.5" Ordnance Survey map, but those have not been actually located.  These three posts may not have anything to do with the subject of this survey.    Probably correct - not Tax Posts.
179   8 FARLEIGH ROAD AND OLD FARLEIGH ROAD.  At commencement of Old Farleigh Road, just beyond Harrow Inn in grass verge of Little Farleigh Green a few feet from the road.  Well set in earth but very rusty.   This is the next post in line of route - the Nail Nos. are out of sequence.
180   9 LITTLE PARK WOOD.  Opposite sewage farm on verge, of wood under an oak tree at the entrance of the bridle path leading towards Warlingham Park Hospital.  Well set in earth, slightly rusty.   TQ 368 595
178    10 HARROW ROAD AND CHELSHAM ROAD.  In bank beside ditch on left side going towards Harrow Inn.  Well set in earth, but very rusty.
  -   11 GREEN HILL LANE AND CHELSHAM ROAD.  On left-hand side of the junction facing Warlingham.  Was known to have existed until quite recently, but may be buried under piled-up earth.   TQ 368 587
177   12 SUNNY BANK AND CHELSHAM ROAD.  In grass beside pavement outside plot no.6 Sunny Bank.  Well set in earth, rusty with traces of former painting in bands.
176   13 LIMPSFIELD ROAD AND CHELSHAM ROAD.  In prominent position close to L.T.E. omnibus garage.  Firmly embedded in pavement.  A little rusty with traces of recent cleaning.   LTE = London Transport Executive

173    15A STUART ROAD RAILWAY EMBANKMENT.  This is a railway obelisk type of boundary post and was probably erected after the other posts.
  -   16 GODSTONE ROAD AND SUCCOMB'S HILL.  This post was shown on the original placement map but cannot now be found.   TQ 346 573
172   16A WELL FARM ROAD.  On left-hand side from Godstone Road, beside the fence of the Powers-Samas factory just beyond the bridge over the Bourne.  Well set in ground and in good condition.
171   17 GODSTONE ROAD.  In privet hedge outside no. 376 Godstone Road.  Well set in earth, very rusty with hole due to rust.   Not just rust - Victorian vandalism.
170   18 BRITISH RAILWAYS, CATERHAM BRANCH.  On Railway property, about a quarter of a mile north of Whyteleafe South station.  Possibly in line with post no. 17 above.  The existence of this post has not been confirmed.
169   19 WHYTLEAFE HILL.  In front of Public Library, in earth behind wall and wire fence.  Deeply embedded in earth, slightly rusty.  It has been suggested that this post has been transplanted a few yards from its original position.

  -   21 LANE LEADING TO FORMER MERLEWOOD HOUSE.  No trace can be found of this post.
168   22 STITES HILL ROAD.  On verge of Corporation of London land, Coulsdon Common, just beyond house no. 22.  Well set in ground close to pavement, painted white with City arms picked out in red.   See here re Stitehams / Ninehills confusion

BRIGHTON ROAD, HOOLEY.  There are believed to be two posts in this vicinity one relating to the railways and one to the road.  Only one has been located.  This is beside the little-used railway bridge leading to a lane opposite the "Star" Inn.  It is on the left-hand side of the bridge on the verge of railway land behind the barbed wire fence beside a sycamore tree.  Well set in ground, rusty but with traces of former painting in white.
163   28 WOODFIELD HILL AND BRIGHTON ROAD.  On left-hand side of Brighton Road going towards Redhill, about twenty yards past Woodfield Hill.  In grass bank at side of road outside the railway fence.  Well set in ground, in good condition, only slight rust.
162   29 HOLLYMEOAK ROAD AND PORTNALLS ROAD.  On grass island in centre of cross-roads beside lamp standard and signposts.  Well set in ground, well painted in white with City arms picked out in red.
161   30 HOW LANE, HOW GREEN.  On a bank outside the golf course beside a hedge, opposite Yew Tree Close.  Well set in ground, traces of former painting in white with City, arms picked out in red.

OF THE THIRTY SITES LISTED IT WILL BE SEEN THAT IN 23 THE POSTS ARE STILL EXTANT, ONE HAS BEEN REMOVED AND THE REMAINING SIX HAVE NOT BEEN TRACED.

This list was compiled during the summer of 1957.

These counts exclude Nos. 15A & 16A which have been added from Bourne Society Bulletin No. 11, June 1958
