Yew Maze from the air
Satellite view of the Yew Maze on the Parterre. This maze is modern. A notice outside gives its planting date - 1980s as I recall. The light coloured patch in the middle is the rectangular structure seen in the next picture. It looks triangular because of heavy shadow. The website claims "its intriguing layout is based on an isocahedron [sic] pattern of interlocking-triangular shapes". (174T41)

The heart of the maze
This structure at the centre of the Yew Maze looks much older than the planting of the maze. Possibly a capped-off well head. (174T37)

The Turf Maze in the Kitchen Garden
The manor's website calls it a "penitential maze". Prosaic, as always, Wikipedia tells us that it is an unusual design based on a painting of 1573. Built by Denys Tweddell in 1983. (174T38)

Typical view in our house - three computers - (plus the device taking the photo which is a computer) - two other devices with web-browsing capabilities: a Kindle and a mobile phone.

On a whim, Lesley took this into a mirror in the hope that one of the castle's ghosts - it must have lots - would appear in the photo.

The house is still an home, indeed this bed is sometimes used for guests, and the family see no reason why the furniture should not be changed from time to time as in any home. This bed, of brown oak was made by Robin Furlong of Great Wolford, about 20km away, in 1992. The small table, also by him, was made in 1997.

This is a castle so we don't have a dolls' house: we have a dolls' castle.

A different meaning to the term "kitchen garden": part of the formal garden was the kitchen range of the castle hence these windows.

The locomotive in the foreground is called Broughton Castle in memory of GWR loco 5033 Broughton Castle which worked from 1935 to 1962. The name plate is preserved in the tea room.
