The Annuciation and Visitation - The Guild of Media Arts
The Fall of Man - The Vale of York Academy on behalf of The Gild of Freemen of the City of York
The Temptation of Christ - The Company of Cordwainers
Incredibly the programme gives a credit for "Costume" for this play. For what - doing some rips in some tight jeans?
Cain and Abel - The Lords of Misrule, on behalf of the Company of Merchant Taylors
The Remorse of Judas - The York St John University Players
Of course God has a Yorkshire accent and wears a cloth cap. The children dancing round him make a rather effective burning bush
Judgement Day brought forth by Ravens Morris on behalf of The Company of Merchant Adventurers

The Creation of the World to the Fifth Day - presented by the York Guild of Building

The Slaughter of the Innocents - Heslington Church
I say that they did it wrong! This image, ripped off from
here shows John pouring a bit of water over Jesus' head. But why was John making people go down to Jordan? Because he was baptising by
total immersion. When I played John, we did it that way.
The Woman taken in Adultery and The Raising of Lazarus - York St John University
Interval
The trumpet is nearly two yards long
I could not see the "motivation" of this set
The Crucifixion and The Death of Christ - The York Butchers Gild [sic] with the Church of St Chad on the Knavesmire, Harrogate
The Harrowing of Hell - the Church of St Luke the Evangelist
An whole-parish production - if you wanted a part, you got one
Prompter is in full view so must be in costume. For more than one of the mob-handed plays the director allowed spectacles - probably for basic safety reasons with people having to climb steps, etc.
The Resurrection - presented by The Company of Merchant Taylors

modernised text.
Spin doctoring is nothing new. In this play Pilate and the two high priests are initially very disturbed by the tomb having been found empty. But then Pilate works out a suitable story and calm is restored.
Pilate: Harken what that ye shall say
To ilka man both night and day:
That ten thousand men in good array
Came you until,
With force of arms bore him away
Against your will.
Thus shall ye say in ilka land,
And thereto on that same covenant
A thousand pound have in your hand
To your reward —
And friendship, sirs, ye understand,
Shall not be spared.
Thus shall the sooth be bought and sold,
And treason shall for truth be told.
The Last Judgement - The Company of Merchant Adventurers, with Pocklington School
I am not sure what the theological justification is for including a steampunk morris side! Such sides seem to be always mixed sex. Note the officers of the company in their robes in the background
